Compensation To Help You In Your Recovery
There are many people throughout England, Scotland and Wales who have suffered some form of abuse during some point of their lives. Physical abuse, Psychological abuse and Sexual abuse are amongst the most common and most devastating forms and can cause serious and long-lasting damage to all aspects of a person’s life.
Any form of abuse, whether it be physical, psychological or sexual, can have a long-lasting and detrimental impact on a victims life. Whilst we appreciate that no amount of money can ever fully compensate for such abuse, we do understand that compensation can help towards the cost of recovery.
The Same Roof Rule (Abolished)
On 28th February 2019, the Government brought forward legislation to abolish the longstanding ‘Same Roof’ rule.
For Many years victims of violent crimes were refused compensation under the Scheme as a result of the ‘Same Roof’ rule. The now abolished rule previously applied to any violent crimes which occurred before 1st October 1979 where the victim and the attacker were living together at the time of the incident.
Now that the rule has been abolished this obstacle has been removed and greater access to compensation is allowed for innocent victims. The abolishing of the rule will ensure that no innocent victim is unfairly denied access to compensation simply because they lived with their attacker.
If you have previously applied for compensation under the Scheme and have been refused compensation as a result of the ‘Same Roof’ rule, you will now be eligible to make a fresh application.
Likewise, if you have not previously applied because you were of the opinion that you would not qualify for compensation, you can now submit your application to obtain the compensation you are entitled to.
